congrats katie! we're hodgkin's twins :) i just celebrated my 5 year anniversary with a big purple party - apparently purple is the color for hodgkins!
I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in March 2008. I had been going back and forth to the doctors since November 2007 because of enlarged lymph nodes in my neck. The doctors thought it was just an illness that I had picked up from school (I'm a first grade teacher) so they gave me antibiotics. The illnesses went away, but the enlarged lymph nodes never did. I was finally referred to a hematologist who sent me for Cat and Pet scans. It turned out that it was Stage IIA Hodgkins.
I received 4 months of ABVD and 20 radiation treatments to my neck and chest. My last treatment was on September 29th. I'm finally starting to feel better, but I still have a lot of fatigue. I'm also constantly worrying about relapsing or getting a different/worse cancer. People keep telling me how brave and inspirational I have been, but I don't feel that way. I just never let them see me cry. The only people who know how hard it's really been are my husband and all of my fellow cancer fighters. I am so grateful for sites like these that make me feel "normal" and connected.
