Street Caves In, Fire Engine Trapped in Sink Hole... an unusual sight!

Firefighters responded to a 911 call this morning. Apparently an "unknown water problem in the street" was reported. The firefighters were able to go down the street and then when they realized the problem they began to back up. Two firefighters were already out of the engine, to assist in backing up. Unfortunately they found the payment gave way, the Engine was slipping nose first into the sink hole. The Captain and Engineer climbed out the windows to safety. It was an "E ticket ride" one of the firefighters said. All firefighters were safe and unharmed. There was a concern for gas leaks as well as possible flooding. A press conference was held with Los Angeles City Mayor Antonio Villaragosa, he was grateful that the firefighters were safe.
It was an incredible site to witness. They attempted to remove the Engine with a cable and tow. That was not a success so they needed to get a crane to try" towing and lifting" This proved to be a success. After approximately 7 hours the Fire Engine was out , windows broken, mud oozing out of the doors and a gaping hole to be contended with. Unsure what the cause of this break was or whether it was related to the break on Cold Water Canyon where 3 feet of water came down the Canyon. An investigation was going to get under way immediately. The water was going to be off for about 40 homes, for at least 10-12 hours.
I don't think this quiet neighborhood had seen so much action and they are probably wishing they never will again.

Although the city of Los Angeles has seen it's fair share of difficult times we have had many celebrations as well. Los Angeles celebrated it's 228th Birthday on Sept. 5th! To see more on this celebration go to iReporter MarieSager.
